This umbrella is a full sized cane style umbrella and measures 34” when retracted with a 7.5″ J-handle. The button to release the acrylic words is right above the handle. Press it and slide the runner up the center tube until it locks at the top. Be sure not to hold down the red button as you do this or it will not lock; sometimes sliding too fast or hard causes the locking mechanism not to engage either so slow and gentle is the key. The acrylic words of the umbrella measures 42” in diameter which is decent for 1 or 2 people. Inside there is a colorful inner layer with butterfly pattern vents that help guard against rain bleed through and blowouts from strong winds. This umbrella does a nice job repelling rain and provides UV protection on sunny days.
The fabric feels fairly durable and there are two sets of fiberglass and aluminum alloy ribs in the umbrella for strength. So far, I haven’t experienced any leaks, though our storms have been mild and misty. The interesting part about this umbrella is that it closes inwards and upwards. This design makes it easy to get in and out of your car and doors without getting everything wet; the water stays inside the umbrella as it closes and you can shake it out without making a mess. The handle scuffs too easily, however, and already looks scratched up.
